The technical term, Mechatronics, was coined by Mr. Tetsuro Mori, CEO/Chairman, Seibu Electric and Machinery Co.,Ltd., in 1969 when he worked for Yaskawa Electric Corporation in Kitakyushu. The purpose was to promote the new technology to produce new machine tools by integrating machines and electronics. “Mechatronics” is hence attached the meaning that helps open up a new road toward brighter future.
The first ICMT was convened in Santa Clara, USA (1996), and subsequently in Yokohama, Japan (1997), in Hsinchu, Taiwan (1998), in Pusan, Korea (1999), in Singapore (2001), in Kitakyushu, Japan (2002), in Taipei, Taiwan (2003) and in Hanoi, Vietnam (2004).
The objective of ICMT is to facilitate close dialogues among experts on issues relating to research and technological development in mechatronics. This conference is aimed to promote strong interactions between academy and industry in all the aspects of mechatronics technology, including human resource development and education.
